Nebula - Message Of Friendship?
TUSCON, AZ - In an announcement earlier this week, astronomers at Kitt Peak National Observatory stated that they may have the first hint of earthly contact with extra-terrestrial origins.
While observing changes in the the NGC6369 nebula, most were astonished to discover what seems to be an intentional message left behind by some kind of other-worldly intellect. Though to the layperson the photo may seem like nothing but a colorful mass, NASA researchers who were called in when the Kitt Peak's SETI team announced this discovery, are equally delighted with the possibility.
Tom Hanson, director of Kitt Peak's SETI program is happy yet apprehensive. "I don't think we should jump to any conclusions on this," says the middle-aged sky watcher. "I mean we've had 'contact' before that turned out to be I Love Lucy reruns from Mrs. Thatcher's place down the street."
When asked about this discovery, the eighty year old Thatcher, retired professional homemaker and grandmother of six, had no comment but was happy for the SETI team because they "seem like such nice young men". She does say that she's quite certain her television was off, or at least tuned to static as she was asked to do for the past seven years.
Hanson goes on to state publicly that although this nebula may harbor some sort of message, he wants to go on record as a disbeliever, "unless of course we suffer alien invasion". Then he vows to be the first sycophant to join the aliens in their quest for galactic domination.
The head of the late Carl Sagan was brought in to be consulted, being frozen for just such an occurence as this. After thawing Sagan will meet with both NASA's and Hanson's teams at Mrs. Thatcher's place for a round of bridge.
